What does it mean to respond?
To respond to the Gospel means turning from sin and trusting in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. It is not pretending to be perfect. It is coming honestly to the One who saves.

Repentance means turning from sin and turning to God. Faith means trusting in Jesus Christ alone for salvation.
You can pray honestly
A prayer does not save by itself; Jesus saves. But prayer can honestly express repentance and faith in Him.
A simple prayer
God, I know that I have sinned against You.
I believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son.
I believe He died for sinners and rose from the dead.
I turn from my sin and trust in Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord.
Please forgive me, make me new, and help me follow You.
